Monocle. If you are a magazine freak like me then you probably know what I'm talking about. This magazine or briefing created by Tyler Brule is such joy to look at. It's like looking at well made Lego model.
Tyler is well know for creating wallpaper magazine. He is an international speaker and consultant as well as being a columnist for the Financial Times.

Their February issue focuses on Hospitality and is out today.

For now I just can't get enough of all the little details and illustrations and the way they use the font Plantin.

It's high concept and editorial selection has created a following beyond it's Japanese border despite it's mostly Japanese text.
Their July issue focuses on the current state of design where everything has been commercialized and designers have sold their soul for fame and money.

The Long Emergency
I was re reading articles on AnotherMan and I stumbled on an article by James Howard Kunstler titled The Long Emergency.

It was published in Autumn of 2005, and Kunstler basically predicted the global energy crisis and the economic meltdown.

The current world is so dependent on oil that the sharp rise in demand and the shortage of it has created this domino effect of economic meltdown, shortage of natural resources, violent upheaval, geopolitical turbulence, and climate change.

Kunstler basically says that it is too late to ever go back to the way we lived in the past few decades. We have already begun to cry for change, but that change is not going to make much difference to the outcome that is being played out today.

Our civilization will continue on for better or for worse.

Lobster Flavoured Potato Chips
If you are a lobster lover then you should definitely travel to PEI, Canada.
A place made famous because of Anne of Green Gables, it also happens to be a land of lobsters. Hence this lovely bag of lobster flavoured potato chips. Unfortunately no lobsters were cooked to enhance these chips.

From Possibility to Actuality
Art Gate Gallery in New York is opening an exhibition by Korean cartoonist Hyun Gon Ji. He is an extraordinary man who has been crippled since the age of seven and has never stepped outside his tiny room for 40 years. With no education or training, he has developed his own style and technique from copying drawings from manga.

As Albert Einstein said, "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions."

Exhibition goes until April 26th.

If you are in San Francisco or if you are planning to visit anytime soon then you should definately check Tezuka: The Marvel of Manga at Asian Art Museum.

Osamu Tezuka is "the god of manga" best known for Astro Boy, Black Jack, Kimba the White Lion, Princess Knight, Buddah and Phoenix.
His work range from something for the children as well for those who are disturbed to the soul.

The exhibition runs from June 2-September 9, 2007 so don't miss it.
They even have a manga lounge!
